JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) together with the Japan National Space Policy Secretariat Cabinet Office (CAO-NSPS) are working together in the development and use of satellite navigation systems technology.

Both parties have signed an initial commitment in the form of a letter of intent (LOI) at the BJ Habibie building, BRIN complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 25.

"LOI's signing is a starting point. Furthermore, we certainly hope that there will be a series of concrete implementations that will benefit the parties," said BRIN Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization Hendrian as reported by ANTARA.

He said the use of satellites and the development of technology is of course very, very much needed by archipelagic countries, such as Indonesia.

Head of the BRIN Electronics and Informatics Research Organization, Budi Prawara, sees the potential utilization of the Quasi Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) developed and operated by Japan.

QZSS is a pessionizing satellite that has high accuracy, so it is useful in developing an autonomous electric vehicle system and also a smart buoy which is currently being developed by BRIN.

Budi explained that every autonomous vehicle moving from destination to destination must be guided, one of which is using an accurate global or GPS treatment system to minimize collisions.

"That is very good for the autonomus vehicle system which is one of the focuses of the Electronic and Informatics Research Organization program," he said.

BRIN in the near future will hold a workshop on satellite navigation system technology.
