Garbage Processing Site In Gili Trawangan Burns

MATARAM - Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in the Gili Trawangan tourist area, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) caught fire.

The head of the Gili Hotel Association (GHA) Lalu Kusnawan confirmed the fire incident that hit the TPST in the NTB mainstay tourist area.

"Yes, it really caught fire at around 16.00 WITA," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 21.

He revealed that the fire scorched the garbage inside because many flammable items. However, it is not yet known what the exact cause of the fire was.

"We don't know the cause yet, because when the wind fire was also strong," he said.

According to him, when the fire was handled by firefighters, they were assisted by residents and other officers.

"Now it can be extinguished," he said.

However, to prevent repeated fires, his party suggested that local governments be able to take over waste management in the area.

Not only that, hydrant pipes, fire extinguishers, including additional fire personnel also need to be a concern for local governments.

"Currently we are fact that waste management is handled by the private sector, not handled by the government. The TPST building has not yet run so that the destruction of waste cannot," he said.

"This is only the current condition of 15 tons of waste produced per day in Gili Trawangan. Because this is an international tourist spot, the role of the government is important," he added.

Meanwhile, when contacted separately by the Head of the North Lombok Regency Fire Department (Damkar), Suhardi said that on Friday night the fire conditions at TPST had been extinguished since it caught fire at 16.00 WITA.

"It's extinguished, now it's just smoke. It's just around the front of Maghrib," he said.

His party deployed four members who served in the place on a daily basis, apart from the assistance on the ground, they also put out the fire. However, in this condition there were no casualties.

Especially in Gili Trawangan, he said, there were already three-wheeled vehicles to extinguish the fire and spray equipment. It's just that there is no hydrant pipe in the tourist area.

He regretted that there was no hydrant in that place, although actually his party had installed a hydrant pipe, but was rejected by one of the water supply companies there.

"Yesterday we wanted to install hydrants, even though we wanted to install two of the six hydrants that were planned and related to this rejection issue we have conveyed to the Regent," said Suhardi.
