AHY Ensures Democrats Evaluate Legal Products If They Return To Government

JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) confirmed that he would evaluate a number of legal products if his party returned to government after the 2024 presidential election.

"If later we have a historical opportunity to return to national government, of course we will immediately evaluate everywhere that needs to be revised immediately. Later there will be priorities, ranking, urgency. Which one needs to be prioritized first," AHY said in response to Antara's question after a political speech in Jakarta, Friday, July 14, was confiscated by Antara.

However, he ensured that the evaluation was not an unequivocal attitude, considering that legal products that had a good impact on people's lives and did not conflict with Democratic values would certainly be maintained.

"If the one is good, okay, relevant, fair, continue! However, it's not true, we don't make sense (of sense, ed.) we revise it. That's our spirit," said AHY.

In his speech, AHY alluded to the Democrat's rejection of the Job Creation Act and the Draft Health Law.

"But the Democrats did not listen, (the DPR) hit the hammer (regarding the Job Creation Law), it turned out that it was true that the product of the Job Creation Law was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court which in the end had to be improved within a certain period of time," said AHY.

Then, he also regretted the mandatory expenditure rule (mandatory spending) of 5 percent of the APBN removed in the Health Law. The provisions were previously regulated in Article 171 of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health.

"Democrats argue that a mandatory budget of at least 5 percent of the APBN removed in the Health Law should be maintained. I repeat, it should be maintained!" AHY said in his political speech.

Regarding the mandatory expenditure, Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that the decision to abolish this provision in the Health Law was based on the fact that health benefits were not determined by the nominal amount of money issued.

"The amount of spending does not determine the quality of the outcome (benefits). There is no data that proves that the greater the spending, the better the health rate," said Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin after the DPR Plenary Meeting at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday 11 July.

Apart from that explanation, there are two factions in the DPR who reject the Health Law, namely PKS and the Democratic Party.
