Puan Affirms Not Talking About Politics When Meeting Anies Baswedan In The Holy Land

JAKARTA - The chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP, Puan Maharani, confirmed that there was no political discussion when meeting the presidential candidate (candidate) for the Anies Baswedan Amendment Coalition in Saudi Arabia. The two of them only stayed in touch because they accidentally met during the pilgrimage.

This was conveyed by Puan when asked about her meeting with Anies Baswedan at the Guest House in Mina, Saudi Arabia. They met after throwing the jumrah.

"Alhamdullilah, at that time we were both worshiping so we didn't talk about political issues," said Puan to reporters at the PDIP DPP Office, Jalan Diponegoro, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, July 11.

"But we both agree that the gathering must still be carried out even though we both know that PDIP already has presidential candidates and Mas Anies is a presidential candidate from the NasDem Party," he continued.

This gathering is important because building a nation cannot be done alone. There must be communication with many parties, said Puan.

"We agree that relations must still be carried out not only during worship but every time the gathering must still be done because building a nation and state must be done together," said the chairman of the DPR RI.

Previously, PDIP DPP Chairman Said Abdullah who accompanied Puan's family said the meeting between Puan and Anies was not scheduled. They met while resting at the Guest House.

"We were resting for a moment after Mina to throw the second number. Without planning, we met with Mas Anies Baswedan. When the two rested after the long activity, they met," Said said in a written statement, Friday, June 30.

Said said that the meeting between Puan and Anies took place casually. The two of them even took pictures together accompanied by their respective partners.

He also mentioned that Puan and Anies prayed for each other so that they could carry out the rest of the series of Hajj services smoothly.

"At the same time chatting casually, just talking lightly, praying for each other, let alone being in the Baitullah as a place to pray," concluded Said.
