JAKARTA - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) urges the Police to arrest the perpetrators of child rape in East Jakarta.

"The Ministry of PPPA asks the Police to immediately take legal action against a grandfather who is suspected of having sexual intercourse with a child," said Head of the Legal and Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of PPPA Margareth Robin Korwa, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.

According to him, if the perpetrator is found guilty, he can be charged with using Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS).

Not only that, he said, perpetrators can also be subject to criminal sanctions as stipulated in Article 81 of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection.

Margaret Robin Korwa added that currently the DKI Jakarta Province Women and Children Protection Integrated Service Center (P2TP2A) has accompanied victims related to legal services and psychological examinations.

"Currently, children and mothers have received legal assistance and psychological examinations from UPT P2TP2A DKI Jakarta Province," said Margareth Robin Korwa.

The victim is suspected of having experienced five incidents of sexual violence committed by the perpetrators from 2021 to 2022.

The perpetrator, who was a neighbor of the victim, allegedly lured the victim with money and threatened the victim not to tell anyone else about the sexual violence.

The victim's family reported this case to the East Jakarta Metro Police in March 2023.
