Medan District Court Judge Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison Riau Residents Dealing With Methamphetamine

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court on Wednesday sentenced the defendant Dudy Wardani Sinaga, a resident of Pekanbaru, Riau, to six years in prison in a case of distributing 5.74 grams of methamphetamine.

"In addition, Dudy Wardani Sinaga was fined Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to three months in prison," said Chief Judge Abdul Hadi Nasution at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

The panel of judges assessed that the defendant was proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics.

"The aggravating thing is that the defendant does not follow the government's program in eradicating drugs and damaging the nation's generation. Meanwhile, the mitigating thing is that the defendant admits his guilt and is polite," said the presiding judge.

After reading the verdict, the panel of judges gave the public prosecutor (JPU) and the defendant's legal adviser (PH) to think about it or accept the verdict.

In the indictment, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office Sri Delyanti explained that on October 31, 2022, police officers from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) received information from the public about drug trafficking on Jalan S Parman, Medan Baru.

Then, the police secured the defendant along with evidence. From the interrogation, the defendant admitted that the illicit goods came from AA (DPO) while in Pekanbaru, Riau.
