Police Arrest Perpetrators Of Trafficking In Persons In Bondowoso

BONDOWOSO - Bondowoso Police, East Java, revealed the alleged criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) by recruiting and dispatching illegal migrant workers to Malaysia with the lure of a large salary.

Bondowoso Police Chief AKBP Bimo Ariyanto said after receiving a report from a trafficking victim, the police immediately conducted an investigation and arrested the suspect with the initials AWR at his home in Grujugan Kidul Village, Grujugan District, Bondowoso.

"This case was successfully revealed after one of the victims on behalf of Mujiarto reported it to the Resort Police," said AKBP Bimo Ariyanto as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

According to him, the suspect AWR recruited, sheltered, sent, handed over workers to be dispatched to Malaysia as migrant workers illegally.

Not only that, the suspect also withdrew funds for departure fees and promises for work with a large salary. However, what was promised was not in accordance with the facts or the suspect took advantage of the victim.

"The suspect illegally dispatched the victim to Malaysia via the border and abandoned it. The suspect sent the victim to someone to be hired for profit," said the Head of the Bimo Police.

From the results of the suspect's statement, he said, since June 2022, the perpetrators have recruited and accommodated and sent prospective illegal migrant workers from the suspect's house.

AKBP Bimo said, starting from June 1, 2022 to May 2023, the suspect admitted that he had dispatched 39 illegal migrant workers to the neighboring country.

In November 2022, it was also admitted that three people (victims) were dispatched, and the three victims returned home because they were abandoned and deported.

"Our suspect AWR is ensnared by Article 2 paragraph (1), Article 4, Article 10, Article 11 of Law No. 21 of 2007 concerning the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO)," he said.
