70 West Java Prisoners Receive Vesak Day Remission

BANDUNG - The West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office noted that there were as many as 70 prisoners or prisoners in prison inmates (WBP) who received special remission on Waisak Day 2023. West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights Kadivpas Kusnali said the granting of remission was based on the Letter of the Director General of Correction Number: W.11.PAS-PK.05.04.676 dated April 14, 2023 regarding the Implementation of the Special Remission for Vesak Day 2023 to inmates. "The number of WBPs who received Waisak Day remission was 70 people, consisting of Vesak I Special Remission as many as 69 people and Vesak II Special Remission amounted to 1 person," said Kusnali, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 2. He explained that the Special Remission of Waisak I was a remission for reducing the criminal period of prisoners, but still had to undergo the remaining criminal and could not be released. Meanwhile, according to him, the Waisak II Special Remission was a remission of the criminal period of prisoners and could immediately be released from prisons or detention centers. So that on this Day of Waisak there was one prisoner who could immediately be released. According to him, the remission for the reduction of the sentence obtained by prisoners varied from 15 days to 2 months. Most of them, there were 38 prisoners who received remission for 1 month. "From UPT correctional data throughout West Java, the inmates who received the most remission were in Class I Cirebon Prison as many as 9 people, and Cirebon Class IIA Narcotics Prison as many as 9 people," he said.

According to him, the conditions that must be met by the prisoners must be able to get remission include good behavior within a period of remission. And for general criminal convicts, according to him, a minimum sentence of 6 months must be calculated from the date of detention. "For criminal acts related to PP 99 of 2012 article 34A, they must still serve a minimum sentence of 6 months by attaching the terms according to the provisions," he said.
