PARIGI MOUTONG - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi confirmed that the bodies found by residents were flood victims from Balinggi District.

"The victim is a resident of Balinggi Jatih Village, Balinggi District. The victim was found in Tolai village, Torue District," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Parigi Moutong Amiruddin, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 30.

He explained that the victim was a 60-year-old woman named Masi who was swept away by the flood on Monday (29/5) night.

The victim was found by residents on Tuesday morning in the rice fields, and the bodies of the flood victims are currently being evacuated by residents to be taken to the funeral home.

"It was reported that the victim tried to cross the flood with her grandson, instead she was swept away by the current," he said.

Floods in Balinggi Subdistrict occurred due to overflowing rivers triggered by the intensity of heavy rains that flushed the area since Monday afternoon around 16:00 WITA until the evening.

The flood also brought mud and pieces of wood, causing Trans Sulawesi road access to be cut off and temporarily closed.

"For the time being, a death toll has been reported, we are still waiting for further developments, because the Rapid Response Team (TRC) continues to carry out assessments," he said.

BPBD also reported that no residents had fled after being flooded in Balinggi.
