JAKARTA - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) stated that the Ministry of Religion has assigned duties to around 50 thousand dai and daiyah throughout Indonesia to spread the message of peace in the midst of differences and to prevent the emergence of radicalism and terrorism in society.

"The Ministry of Religion has assigned 50 thousand dai and daiyah throughout Indonesia, while from MUI there are 1,300 (dai-daiyah) who are standardized to spread this and they specifically spread, provide understanding, provide explanations, correct problems related to radicalism," said Head of BNPT Rycko Amelza Dahniel as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 24.

BNPT also supports the National Dai Program initiated by the Ministry of Religion and other related elements by providing some material content to prevent radicalism and intolerance.

"We want to provide understanding and unite our determination and straighten our intentions and promise that this country remains safe and peaceful. Strengthen diversity and look forward is safer and more prosperous," he said.

The Head of BNPT also stated that there is a trend of increasing intolerance among vocational school students in Bandung City and research on this is currently being carried out by BNPT.

Rycko said the increase in the spread of intolerance in the city of Bandung has not led to extremes, meaning that prevention can still be done early on.

"And the results of research on Bandung City Vocational School children have become a research locus that has started to occur, there has been an increase in passive intolerance, although it has not gone that way but it is already there," said Rycko.

With this potential, Rycko emphasized that BNPT will go directly and take preventive measures from an early age through the educational environment so that students can maintain an understanding of tolerance.

"Of course this is a whip and a warning for all of us to be more aggressive in elementary, junior high and high school schools to universities so they don't get tricked into being manipulated," he said.

"Religious studies turned out to be studying violence for political purposes of power and the form of this form, that form, don't let them break up," he added.

Overall, he continued, West Java is the area with the most Muslim population in Indonesia, including the younger generation.

BNPT will continue to supervise and prevent young people from being exposed to intolerance.

"For the younger generation today, the target should not be manipulated, lied to, followed by certain parties by using religious symbols," said the Head of BNPT warning.
