LABUAN BAJO - President Joko Widodo was involved in making a memorandum of dish for ASEAN leaders and their delegates who attended the ASEAN 42nd Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, 9-11 May 2023.
This was revealed by Chef Arnold Poernomo, one of the chefs who is trusted to mix and serve various dishes during the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.
"This is one of the things that I really salute with Mr. (President). It really conceptualizes what purpose each lunch or dinner is," Arnold said as broadcast by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 11.
Arnold explained that President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo are used to wanting to host guests very specifically, without heeding their positions or anything.
"Every guest is always very very special. For our own ingredients, we have chosen the best from Indonesia for us to cook, serve, serve," he said.
Chef Max Millian, who is also one of the chefs of the ASEAN 42nd Summit presentation menu, claims that each plate served to ASEAN leaders presents the flavors of various islands in Indonesia.
"So there is also aflator (flavor) from Sulawesi, Lombok also exists, and Bali also exists. So basically representing several provinces in Indonesia," he said.
Arnold said his team did carry the concept of "The Taste of Archipelago" or the taste of the archipelago.
"Indonesia is very wide and there are also many islands, so we adjusted the concept during the 42nd ASEAN Summit," he said.

The ASEAN leader's dinner at the 42nd ASEAN Summit was held at komodo Waecicu Beach, Labuan Bajo, starting with a presentation of dances from the E-Project and Ekosdance Company dance groups directed by the choreographer Eko Supriyanto and the accompanying music composed by Ronald Steven.
Then after the GAC vocal group performance performed the song "Puspa Warni" by Guruh Soekarnoputra, President Jokowi conveyed his greeting while expressing the hope that ASEAN leaders would enjoy the presentation of the menu served and the entertainment displayed.
"Hopefully the natural beauty and friendliness of local residents here can encourage us to support ASEAN as a peaceful and stable area, as well as a growth center," said Jokowi.
