Metro Jaya Police Chief Bans Members From Carrying Firearms During May Day Security

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Pol Karyoto forbade his members to carry firearms during securing the commemoration and demonstrations of International Labor Day or "May Day" in the capital city. "Remember no one is carrying firearms," he said while giving directions at the International Labor Day Celebration Security Ceremony attended by joint personnel from the National Police, TNI, Satpol PP and other related parties at Monas, Central Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, May 1.

Karyoto also reminded the joint security team totaling 1,624 personnel to provide services to people who commemorate International Labor Day. "Of course, securing is to provide a sense of security and comfort to our brothers who carry out activities and provide security to the affected communities," he said. Karyoto also said that the use of tear gas towards the masses must wait for instructions from the Kapolda. "The use of tear gas is waiting for orders from me," he added, adding that he and several Polda Metro Jaya officers would judge whether it was appropriate to use tear gas or not.

The former Deputy for Enforcement of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also hopes that the commemoration of International Labor Day in DKI Jakarta will be safe and orderly.

"Kita berharap dan berdoa mudah-mudahan acara hari ini bisa berjalan tertib dan akan menimbulkan keamanan masyarakat," katanya.Konfederasi Serikat Pekerja Indonesia (KSPI) berencana menggelar aksi massa di depan Istana Negara dan Gedung Mahkamah Konstitusi (MK), Jakarta, saat memperingati Hari Buruh Internasional pada 1 Mei 2023Presiden KSPI yang juga Presiden Partai Buruh, Said Iqbal menyatakan, pihaknya akan menyampaikan lima tuntutan dan satu seruan dalam rangkaian aksi mereka.
