YOGYAKARTA The term clemency is synonymous with the president or the position of head of state. Grass often appears in legal cases that occur in a country. Although often mentioned, not many people know what clemency is.

This article will discuss matters relating to clemency both in terms of understanding, benefits, and so on.

The president who is the leader of the country has various prerogatives or privileges, one of which is the right to clemency. Definition of clemency in the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), is the forgiveness given by the head of state to people who have been sentenced.

Grasi is one of the prerogatives of the President in the Judicial field, namely making decisions relating to granting clemency, Amnesty, Abolition and Rehabilitation (GAAR). The decision was given to individuals involved in the legal process as mandated in Article 14 paragraph (1) and Article 14 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition, it is also regulated in Law no. 22 of 2002 (UU Grasi). The law explains that clemency is a pardon in the form of changes, easing, reducing, or abolition of criminal execution of convicts given by the President.

Although the president may provide clemency, there are matters that must be considered in the application and granting of clemency as referred to in Article 2 Paragraph (2) 1 of the Grasion Law which changes the provisions of Law 22/2002, the point of which is as follows.
