The Plan To Increase Transjakarta Tariffs Is Considered Not A Way To Fix Capital Transportation Problems

JAKARTA - It has only become a discourse through a public survey, the plan to increase Transjakarta rates has been rejected by a number of parties. The Indonesian City Citizens Forum Institute (Fakta) also sees the increase in Transjakarta tariffs as not a solution to improving transportation problems in the capital city.

Secretary General of Indonesian Facts Ary Subagyo said that the current problem of Jakarta transportation has not been resolved properly. What is, the level of congestion is getting worse.

"The increase in tariffs is not the main solution in fixing transportation lanes in Jakarta, it will actually burden public transportation users, it is very likely that users will switch to motorized vehicles," Ary said in his statement, Friday, April 14.

Based on Transjakarta's statement, the discourse on increasing bus fares is based on the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) proposal.

Ary emphasized that DTKJ should understand that Transjakarta tariffs are set cheap because there is a subsidy allocation or public service obligation (PSO) from the DKI Regional Budget. According to him, the city transportation system should be subsidized.

So, he continued, DTKJ does not deserve to encourage an increase in tariffs so that it will increase the burden on the community as transportation users.

"The Indonesian fact asks the Governor of DKI Jakarta to review the discourse of increasing tariffs and the DKI Jakarta DPRD must reconsider the subsidies that have been used for users to be right or there are things that are wrong in their application and it needs to be opened to the public with the amount of subsidies so that the public is able to control the budget sourced from the DKI Jakarta DPRD," he said.

The discourse of increasing Transjakarta transportation rates was revealed through uploads on the official Instagram account of PT Transjakarta, @pt_transjakarta, with the title Transjakarta Customer Voices #Vol-3 2023.

In the post, it was stated that there was a proposal to adjust the Transjakarta tariff from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ). The proposed Transjakarta tariff is from Rp. 4,000 and Rp. 5,000 during peak hours.

"There is a proposal to adjust the Transjakarta tariff from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) to Rp. 4,000 and Rp. 5,000 during peak time (07:01-10:00 and 16:01-21:00)," said the description of the upload.
