JAKARTA - Since his move on the automotive stage in 2017, BMW's series-6 Gran Turismo (GT) has opened a new chapter. However, when the story stretched, there was an unexpected dark spotlight where this series was less in demand by the market.

In a recent report from Motor1 released on August 4, BMW provided clarification on the fate of the Series-6 GT. The company said it would end all production periods, with the types Couple, Convertible, and Gran Coupe with GT which will be the last variant and will provide space for Series-5 production.

"In welcoming the return of the Series 5 in 2023, the BMW Series 6 GT will say goodbye. The production journey has been completed. Nonetheless, some units are still available to those who idolize it. This opportunity should not be missed for fans to claim it as soon as possible," said a spokesman from BMW.

Since paving for the first time, the BMW Series-6 GT has never managed to touch the expectations expected by this Bavarian plant. Among the lineup of models on display, Series-6 was recorded as the model with the lowest number of sales in Germany last year, selling only 509 units.

This fact is shocking, considering that this vehicle shares a platform and engine with Series-5 which in 2022, sold for tens of thousands each month an amazing number when compared to the 6 series achievement.

This bad trail continues until the first quarter of 2023. BMW noted that the Series-6 GT sold only 237 units.

The closing of Series-6 production also shifts BMW's focus on interesting variants in various models. From the possibility of presenting convertible or couple type in Series-4 and Series-8, to creating elegant variants of cabriolets or hardtopes.

One of the reasons why the Seri-6 prestige continues to fade is because of the use of gasoline engines, while competitors and rivals have turned to the electrification era. What's more, rejuvenations made in 2021 did not bring about changes in terms of powertrains, making the Series-6 GT even more mired.

However, behind the news of this closure, BMW has prepared a solid foundation for a full journey of electrification in the future. BMW is currently focusing on the production of a series of electric vehicle models, such as i3, i4, i7, and iX.
