JAKARTA - After being introduced some time ago, the Model A flying car developed by Alef Aeronautics received mixed responses as a future vehicle.

The car, which is currently viral, is claimed by Alef Aeronautics to have received pre-orders worth US$250 million or around Rp3.7 trillion.

According to a report from Carscoops on Wednesday, July 5, by the end of 2022, the startup announced it had received 440 pre-orders, including from Hong Kong's largest airline technology company.

Although Alef Aeronautics did not reveal the recent amount of pre-orders, with such high nominal numbers, it is estimated that they have received approximately 834 orders for the Model A.

The pre-order process for Model A began in October 2022, with the company offering two deposit rates. Customers can provide a standard deposit of 150 US dollars (around Rp. 2.2 million) or a priority deposit of 1,500 US dollars (around Rp. 22.5 million) to get priority queues.

Unlike conventional cars, Model A is designed with a very aerodynamic body, allowing vertical airflow, and is equipped with eight fans hidden behind body panels.

Alef Aeronautics also stressed that Model A can easily adapt in various places, not only at airports for takeoff purposes. In addition, the flying car recently received a special airworthiness certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), allowing it to conduct flight demonstration tests in the near future.

In terms of land travel distance, Model A is claimed to have a range of up to 322 km, while in the air, it is expected to fly up to 117 km on a single battery charge.

The price of this flying car is set at 300,000 US dollars or around IDR 4.5 billion. Alef Aeronautics has a target to develop Model A quickly in order to deliver the first unit by the end of 2025.
