KUTAI KARTANEGARA - Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara assessed that the mangrove rehabilitation program could improve people's welfare, so the program must continue to be supported together.

"The mangrove rehabilitation program is not just planting, but connecting how the welfare of the community can be improved," he said at a press conference after a working visit to the mangrove rehabilitation area in Muara Badak Ulu Village and Salo Palai Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 15.

Wmenkeu appreciates the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM), local governments, provinces, regencies, cities, and villages, which have succeeded in carrying out mangrove rehabilitation in Kutai Kartanegara Regency.

In fact, the village head in the region has a vision of how mangroves can improve the welfare of the community further, to create mangrove tourism.

According to Suahasil, the welfare of the community can be improved by the mangrove rehabilitation program through the knowledge provided by BRGM, which continues to look for new ways and methods so that mangroves can grow and develop.

At the same time, in the mangrove ecosystem, there is also the development of milkfish, shrimp, and crab ponds.

"So the mangroves are growing, the welfare of the people is also developing," he said.

In recent times, he explained that the government has indeed intensified mangrove rehabilitation throughout Indonesia.

Thus, it is hoped that the various steps that have been taken by BRGM can be a model in carrying out mangrove rehabilitation and improving the welfare of the people in various other parts of Indonesia.

Accelerating mangrove rehabilitation is an effort to restore the mangrove ecosystem, especially in climate change mitigation activities.

Treemangroves are able to absorb carbon 3-5 times greater than mainland tropical forests.

The potential for mangroves also contributes to the achievement of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 2030, so that the Government of Indonesia accelerates the rehabilitation of mangroves through the formation of BRGM.
