JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has started the construction of the Purworejo Baru Type A Bus Terminal, Central Java, marked by the laying of the first stone or groundbreaking of construction work on Sunday, May 21.

The groundbreaking event was attended by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi together with the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo in Purworejo Regency, Central Java.

The Ministry of Transportation stated that the construction of the Purworejo Baru Terminal is part of the national type A terminal revitalization program carried out by the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation.

The Ministry of Transportation also informed that the terminal will later carry the concept of mix use, which has three main functions, namely not only as a place for going up and down for bus passengers, but also as a driving and driving force for the regional economy and as a center for social, arts and cultural activities.

Through this concept, the terminal is equipped with a number of facilities, including commercial areas for MSMEs, culinary, public services, hotels, shopping areas, multipurpose rooms, and so on.

"The new location for the construction of the Purworejo Terminal is more strategic and the land has been donated. The existence of this new terminal is expected to further improve road transportation services such as buses," said the Minister of Transportation.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Central Java Provincial Government and the Purworejo Regency Government for donating 1.18 hectares of land.

"This synergy between the central and regional governments is a good example for other regions, in order to realize safe, safe and comfortable land transportation services," he said.

Furthermore, he said, the Ministry of Transportation will also provide opportunities for various parties, including BUMN, BUMD, the private sector to cooperate in the development of the Purworejo Baru Terminal through various cooperation schemes between the government and business entities.

Meanwhile, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo welcomed the construction of a new terminal in Purworejo. According to him, this can be used by art actors, MSMEs, and also the public using bus transportation services.

"Hopefully, with the presence of a terminal that is more complete, this facility can improve the economy of the people in Purworejo and its surroundings," said Ganjar.

The new terminal was built in a new location, which is about 500 meters from the old terminal. The old terminal has been operating since 1994 and has been designated as a type A terminal starting in 2003.

The location is in Banyuurip District, Purworejo Regency or opposite the Purworejo Police Headquarters. Later, the old terminal whose land assets belong to the village will be returned to the village.

The terminal construction, which is managed by the Ministry of Transportation through the Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) Region X of Central Java Province, is financed from non-tax state revenue (PNBP) and state sharia securities (SBSN) with a total budget ceiling of Rp35 billion, starting in 2022 to 2024.

The Ministry of Transportation said, given the importance of the function of the terminal, development is targeted to be completed more quickly by the end of 2023.

The new terminal building will be built more widely than the old terminal, with an area of about 2,200 square meters and two floors will be built. Meanwhile, on the 2nd floor the terminal will be used for culinary seating facilities, waiting rooms and storage of goods, toilets, and terminal Korsatpel work areas.

The terminal has six departure waiting room areas, six bus parking departure areas, and two bus arrival lanes and is capable of accommodating up to 1,000-1,200 passengers per day and serving the movement of around 128 interprovincial buses per day.
