JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk. (BNI) is said to have recorded a growth in digital channel (mobile banking) users of 25 percent year on year (yoy) in March 2023.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that until last month the number of mobile banking users had reached 14.3 million users. According to him, more than 60 percent of individual savings (saving account) were contributed by the virtual segment.

"We continue to strive to increase the contribution of savings from this year's mobile banking user by presenting various relevant new superior features as well as promotional programs," he said in a written statement on Friday, April 28.

Okki explained, this positive score was followed by a number of transactions which grew by 52 percent and the transaction value grew by 53 percent.

"BNI recorded growth in the first quarter of 2023 in line with the company's strategy of continuing to strive to improve customer experience in non-cash transactions," he said.

Okki added that the company's fee-based income (FBI) also plays a role in increasing every year.

"We are very grateful that the performance of BNI mobile banking at the beginning of this year grew quite positively, in accordance with our mission to further strengthen digital banking performance, especially in the retail segment," he stressed.

For information, the state-owned bank is known to have succeeded in reaping a consolidated net profit of IDR 5.2 trillion in the first three months of 2023. This slick result cannot be separated from the company's core business, namely credit, which rose 7.2 percent to IDR 634.3 trillion.

Good intermediation performance was also supported by a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio which was maintained at the level of 2.7 percent from the previous 3.4 percent in March 2022.
