Following Sony, Electronic Arts Also Lays Off Five Percent Of Its Employees
JAKARTA - After Sony, Electronic Arts also decided to terminate employment (PHK) for five percent of its employees or about 670 people.
"During these changes, we expect this decision to have an impact on about 5 percent of our workforce," wrote EA CEO Andrew Wilson in an announcement shared for his employees.
Wilson said that the simplification of the company's operations was carried out to provide a deeper and more connected experience for fans, shape culture, and grow fandom.
He also stated that the company plans to move away from the development of licensed IPs in the future, something they believe will not succeed in an ever-changing industry.
Instead, they will shift their focus to the company. Owned IP, sports games, and online experiences.
"Our main goal is to give team members the opportunity to find new roles and paths to transition to other projects," added Wilson.

While not all teams will be affected, Wilson admits this decision is the hardest part. However, the company has deeply considered any options to try and limit the impact on the wider team.
"I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has helped contribute to the ongoing EA story," concluded the announcement.
Previously, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) also announced that it had laid off 900 of its employees globally.
