Vice President Ma'ruf Affirms Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School Education Continues

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that educational activities at the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Indramayu, West Java, must continue even though the leader of the boarding school Panji Gumilang has been named a suspect.

"Although Panji Gumilang has been named a suspect, the pesantren Al Zaytun is still running and must be facilitated by the government," said the Vice President in a press statement after laying the first stone for the construction of the As'adiyah Sebatik Islamic Boarding School Flat, in the Mosquito River, Sebatik Timur District, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 3.

According to the Vice President, the students at the pesantren need guidance so that they do not have deviant thoughts or ideologies.

"Guided yes, directed so that there are no things that can later (commit) thoughts that are considered untrue or deviant," he said.

The Vice President conveyed that related to the handling of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School issue, the government has appointed the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD to handle it.

"I think I have been handed over (to) Mr. Mahfud, yes, to follow up and it has been processed," he said.
