NasDem Considers NU Figures Can Patch Anies Baswedan's Weaknesses
JAKARTA - The chairman of the NasDem Party DPP, Effendy Choirie, assessed that figures who came from the Nahdatul Ulama (NU) circles could patch the weaknesses of the prospective presidential candidate (candidate) for the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP) Anies Baswedan.
"What we think can cover Anies' weakness is from the Nahdlatul ulama environment, cadres from Nahdlatul Ulama," said Gus Choi, his nickname, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 2.
Because, he said, figures from the NU circles could boost Anies Baswedan's weak vote acquisition on the election base for Central Java and East Java, according to the survey results of a number of institutions.
"Therefore, looking for figures. Who are they? Well, here because they are generally Nahdliyin's base, then Nahdliyin's figure is what we want," he said.
He also said that figures who were able to increase these strengths were needed, because the KPP consisting of the NasDem Party, PKS, and the Democratic Party were middle-ranking political parties.
These three parties are middle class parties, not the winning party, not the number two party, but medium. Because they are middle, their strength is limited if we look at the results of the 2019 election yesterday, then we NasDem is thinking of looking for a figure who can increase strength," he said.
Therefore, according to him, the political parties of KPP members are legowo, if there will be a vice presidential candidate accompanying Anies coming from outside the coalition as a strategy to gain votes in the 2024 presidential election.
So that there can be hope to win the fight. Who are they? These three parties must be independent, it doesn't have to be from these three parties, PKS or Democrats, let alone NasDem, no, NasDem has never applied for him to be Anies' vice president," he said.
However, the coalition handed over the decision to determine the candidate for vice president candidate (cawapres) to Anies Baswedan.
"What happens will come we don't know because everything has been completely handed over to Mas Anies. Please choose who, whatever," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the assessment that placed Anies Baswedan as a right-wing figure, he said it was just a stamp or framebelaka.
"Actually, Anies is not right. How is he right? He's the grandson of a national hero and Anies has studied in America, his mother in America is the mother he is following, it's Catholic or Christian, right. So he's just a stamp, frame that he's right," he said.
Gus Choi refused the NasDem Party to carry Anies because of his Islamic background.
"Education is okay, in terms of family background okay, track recordoke," he said.
