Debt Ends In Murder To Burning House In Tanah Kuning Bulungan

TANJUNG SELOR - Bulungan Police, North Kalimantan, confirmed that the fire incident in two housing units caused one victim to die in Tanah Kuning, Tanjung Palas Timur District, Bulungan Regency due to intentional factors.

"We have arrested and detained the perpetrator HR (72 years) less than twenty-four hours after the crime on July 25, 2023," said Kaltara Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya in Tanjung Selor, Kaltara, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 31.

Based on the results of the investigation, the criminal act committed by the perpetrator against the victim at that time was caused by a debt problem that led to persecution to the death of the victim and the burning of the victim's house.

"The perpetrator of burning the house is to ensure that the victim does not fight again," said the Police Chief.

From the results of the investigation of the crime scene by Reskrim and Inafis as well as the statements of witnesses and the evidence obtained, it was found that the source of the fire did not come from electrical short circuits and did not come from kitchen utensils.

Investigators also had time to conduct CCTV checks and there were indications that the suspect was in the vicinity of the crime scene.

"After being interrogated, the suspect admitted his actions, deliberately set fire to the victim's house," said the Police Chief.

This incident claimed the death toll with the initials J. House J (69 years old) was also burned down. In addition, the fire also scorched B's house.

The police charged the suspect HR Article 338 of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of 15 years, Article 351 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of seven years, and Article 187 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code) with a maximum penalty of 12 years.
