KKP Increases The Role Of The Young Generation In Disaster Mitigation

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has optimized the role of the Pangandaran Integrated Aquarium Marine and Research Institute (Piamari) to increase literacy on the importance of mitigating natural disasters for the younger generation.

"The presence of the Piamari in a location directly dealing with the Indian Ocean, has an urgency as a center for human resource development. In addition, the strategic value and function of the Piamari is to recognize the characteristics of the southern coast of Java, Sumatra and the Indian Ocean," said the Head of the Maritime and Fisheries Human Resources Counseling and Development Agency (BPPSDMKP), I Nyoman Radiarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday.

Through this tsunami disaster education and mitigation training, it is hoped that it can provide education and understanding regarding tsunami disasters and triggers, tsunami disaster mitigation strategies, introduction of evacuation routes and tsunami evacuation locations in Pangandaran, as well as simulations of preparedness during tsunami disasters.

"Because the impact that occurs due to natural disasters is not only the responsibility of the government in its resolution, but also demands the involvement of experts from various fields to conduct studies in accordance with their respective expertise, as well as the active role of the community," he said.

Pangandaran, he continued, in addition to having potential disasters, is also one of the leading tourist attractions in West Java Province. This area has tourist attractions including beach beauty, as well as marine parks that allow visitors to carry out various activities.

For this reason, hazard management is needed in all tourist areas including the Pangandaran tourist area, to ensure the safety and security of visitors so that tourism sustainability in the area can be carried out.

Meanwhile, the local government through Pangandaran District also hopes that disaster mitigation training will also be carried out to hotel managers in the Pangandaran tourist area.
