Jokowi Affirms Indonesia's Commitment To Build Chemical And Energy Industries

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized Indonesia's commitment to developing the chemical and energy industry, in his meeting with a number of Chinese company leaders in Chengdu, the People's Republic of China.

"Indonesia is committed to developing the chemical and energy industry in Indonesia, especially in North Kalimantan," Jokowi said in a press release reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 28.

President Jokowi stressed that the Indonesian government has issued regulations on national industrial policies that are considered important to support the target of achieving a green economy.

"(The regulation) contains development targets as well as utilization, supply, and distribution for oil and gas and coal-based chemicals," Jokowi explained.

The Head of State said that the business leaders who attended would later play a role in the development of the chemical industry in Indonesia.

"Indonesia targets to become the largest petrochemical producer in Asia," he said.

During the meeting, President Jokowi appreciated the investment invested by a number of companies present in building industrial estates in a number of regions in Indonesia, including in the construction of petrochemical refineries located in Kalimantan.
