Judge Binsar Gultom Court Jessica Cyanide Becomes Honorary Professor Unisula Semarang
Jakarta High Court Judge Binsar MGultom was confirmed as Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Law, Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unisulan) Semarang, Central Java.
The judge, who tried the murder case with a coffee mode containing cyanide with the defendant Jessica Wongso, conveyed a scientific oration about the "Ad Hoc Human Rights Court Effectivity and the Indonesian Human Rights Court".
Binsar expressed his opinion on the solution to the settlement of cases of gross human rights violations before and after the formation of Law Number 26 of 2000 concerning the Human Rights Court.
According to him, if the Indonesian government makes it difficult and unable to resolve cases of human rights violations that have accumulated in Komnas HAM and the Attorney General, it is feared that the international government will take over these cases for trial.
"The international government through the International Criminal Court can take over the cases of gross human rights violations to be tried at the International Court," said the former judge who had tried East Timor's human rights violations.
Therefore, he assessed that the government's efforts in resolving cases of past gross human rights violations could not be resolved through court, namely through national reconciliation.
"Through the path of national reconciliation, it can still be revealed who is responsible, as well as victims and family members or heirs who continue to receive compensation, restitution, or rehabilitation," Binsar added as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 14.
Meanwhile, for current gross human rights violations, he continued, the only solution that must be done is that it must go through a legal process.

"It is not permissible to reconcile or cover up the case. It must be resolved through a legal process in the human rights court as stipulated in the Law on Human Rights Courts," he said.
He said that to resolve the current case, Komnas HAM together with the Attorney General must immediately reveal and resolve it.
"Especially for cases that have been investigated by Komnas HAM, the Attorney General must immediately transfer them to the Human Rights Court," said the candidate for Supreme Court Justice.
Meanwhile, to President Joko Widodo, Binsar hopes to take a firm stance on Komnas HAM and the Attorney General to resolve cases of human rights violations before his term ends in 2024.
