Study The Industrial World, STIE Totalwin Students Visit Sido Muncul Factory

JAKARTA - S-1 Student of STIE Management Totalwin conducted an industrial visit on Monday, July 3, 2023. A total of 62 students and 2 assistants directly visited PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO) Semarang.

This industrial visit aims so that students can learn directly how a Jamu Sido Muncul product is produced until it is marketed. Observing the production process of herbal medicine from upstream to downstream directly at the factory is certainly an experience in itself. In addition, it is hoped that students can understand the ins and outs of the world of work so that students can understand the importance of a business and have the desire to create as many jobs as possible.

STIE Totalwin received a visit from 09.00 WIB - 11.00 WIB. Delivered by security officers of PT. Sido Muncul, STIE Totalwin Students walked to the Sido Muncul product processing plant.

On the factory terrace, the group was accepted by Meli, the Public Relations Section of Sido Muncul. He conveyed several conditions to enter the factory area, such as not being noisy, taking photos and videos, and holding factory materials and equipment. Students are also not allowed to ask questions first because questions will be held in discussion sessions after the factory tour ends.

In an orderly manner, students are guided around the factory area. First, the group was invited to look at the herbal medicine warehouse.

Meli explained about various things ranging from the types of raw materials, the origin of raw materials, standard quality of raw materials, how to store and the flow of entry and exit of raw materials, namely using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) techniques. Students are enthusiastic about seeing and recording the materials used as herbal raw materials.

Furthermore, students are invited to see the processing process of herbal medicine to packaging. Through a large design glass window, students can clearly see how old and modern machines process materials into products and at the same time pack them. In addition to packaging using machines, there are also manual packaging by workers, this aims to open up jobs for the community.

The next activity is to see the R&D (Research and Development) space, which is the research room and trial of materials before making new products. Through a glass window, students can see researchers working by researching and testing various materials with various tools and security standards that are maintained.

Furthermore, students are directed to go around to the production site for products with liquid shapes. Similarly, when looking at the R&D space, students are only allowed to see from the large glass window, how these liquid-type products are produced, after which students are directed to enter the packaging room for liquid products to see directly the packaging process starting from the sachet to the cardboard packaging.

This visit activity ended in a pavilion surrounded by various rare plants and plants, ponds and several pet cages that were all neatly arranged. Students toured to witness various plants and several animals in the area.

After being satisfied with going around and taking pictures, students were asked to go to the pavilion to hold discussions with PT. Sido Muncul's public relations party. In a relaxed discussion, several students asked about the implementation of CSR Company, the use of AI technology, and the management of human resources at Sido Muncul.

Ami from the Public Relations Section of PT Sido Muncul said that the CSR program at PT Sido Muncul was greater in percentage to community empowerment whose effectiveness level was higher than in other CSR programs.

In short, Sido Muncul gave what the community needed, not just what the community wanted. He said that for the time being, the application of AI technology had not been implemented because it saw from the production process which was not suitable if it was done with AI technology.

Ami said that the management of human resources at PT Sido Muncul which implements cross-substitution between teams, for example, there is a team with loose enough production that will be transferred to the team with high production. This is a way so that there are no layoffs on employees.

In addition, employees of PT Sido Muncul were also given periodic trainings by HR Management to improve performance. All these explanations become new knowledge for students about the production process of Sido Muncul herbal medicine, CSR programs and HR management.
