196 Jorban TIP Handled By The Ministry Of Social Affairs Until June

Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini said there were 196 victims of the Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) handled by the Ministry of Social Affairs until June 2023.

"The number of victims of human trafficking that we handle is 196 to June, then there are 216 problematic migrant workers, while 29 people are at the hall, as long as (victims) are scattered, almost all of Indonesia exists," Risma said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 21.

Risma said that currently the Ministry of Social Affairs has handled the victims with an approach per person.

"We handle each person, we can no longer do it per group, because on average they have economic difficulties. For the treatment and preparation, we develop each person, according to the assessment we get," he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs also said that the victims were handled at the offices belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs which were spread across 37 regions.

"Of the 37 regions it is divided again, the handling is in 400 regencies/cities, although at the border there is no our hall yet, but we are trying to send them to our hall because for the 3T (Front, Disadvantaged, and Remote) area it is our responsibility," he said.

Especially for the victims of this TIP, Risma stated that the Ministry of Social Affairs would provide business assistance in order to increase their independence, because the basic problems of this TIP were triggered by extreme poverty.

"I'm sure they were forced to do it. We have to go down because it's tough, if the people are economically independent, it can be handled," he said.

Risma also found that there were perpetrators who involved the children in the TIP case, for that, he and related agencies are still investigating what motives they want to achieve other than the economy.

"There are other possibilities that we are still exploring for what reason, but the main thing is that this is an economic problem," he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs said that there is a special approach taken for border areas, where TIP cases occur a lot, by strengthening them to build businesses to get out of poverty.
