Yogyakarta Regional Police Unload 2 Yogyakarta-Medan Marijuana Dealer Networks

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Special Region Police uncovered two networks of Yogyakarta-Medan marijuana dealers by arresting six suspects and evidence reaching 16.87 kilograms.

Deputy Director of the DIY Police's Narcotics Investigation Directorate AKBP Bakti Andriyono said the arrests of six suspects with the initials AV, YS, IM, HPNP, JS, and BC began with the handling of drug cases in two locations in DIY.

"The total of 16.87 kilograms (of rice), Yogyakarta is only as a market. It is ordered 'online', transfers, and then goods are sent using direct expeditions from Medan to Yogyakarta," said Bakti as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 19.

He said the disclosure of the first network began with the arrest of the AV suspect in Mergangsan, Yogyakarta City, based on public reports related to drug abuse on May 20, 2023.

From AV, he said, officers confiscated evidence in the form of packages containing branches, leaves, and cannabis seeds weighing a total of 112.18 grams.

Based on the confession, AV bought marijuana online from YS, who was a junior high school friend while in Batam via WhatsApp.

The Yogyakarta Regional Police then carried out developments by sending a team to Medan and then arresting YS in Medan Tembung District, Medan City, North Sumatra.

"From YS, we found evidence of 61 grams of marijuana. So these two people are one network," he said.

Next, on May 24, 2023, the Yogyakarta Regional Police received another report from the public regarding the abuse of marijuana-type narcotics and then arrested the suspect IM in Mlati, Sleman.

"We arrested IM with 66.20 grams of evidence of marijuana," he said.

To the police, IM admitted to buying packages of marijuana online from the suspect HPNP who was in Medan through the Discord Application.

On June 8, 2023, the Yogyakarta Regional Police Team arrested HPNP in Medan Tembung District, Medan City, North Sumatra.

The suspect HPNP admitted to buying marijuana from JS in Medan which was arrested by confiscating 103.89 grams of marijuana.

On the same day, the police arrested BCA in Medan as a supplier of JS by confiscating 16.5 kg of dried marijuana.

"(16.5 kg marijuana) already wants to be sent so he just stocks it, if someone orders just send it, it can be sent a package or a package, just an order, meaning that it is ready to go," he said.

To trick the officers, according to Bakti, the dealers from Medan sent marijuana by wrapping it in a T-shirt package through an expedition service.

Meanwhile, the suspect in Yogyakarta, he said, plans to resell the marijuana in the form of small packages for Rp. 100,000 per 5 grams targeting students, students, and workers.

"No one has bought it yet. Luckily (it has been arrested) if it has been circulated, it will be difficult again," said Bakti.

From the two drug trafficking networks, the police are still trying to develop to uncover suppliers above him suspected of being in the Aceh region.

"Maybe from the two networks to the top we can find them, we just haven't had a point of getting there yet, haven't gone up yet," he said.

For their actions, the police charged AV and IM with Article 111 paragraph (1) subsidiary to Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison, while suspects YS, HPNP, JS, and BC were charged with Article 114 paragraph (1) Subsidiary to Article 111 paragraph (1) more subsidiary to Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a maximum imprisonment of 20 years.
