Observer: GMS, Right When Explaining Pertamina Can Rise From Difficult Situations

JAKARTA - The General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) that Pertamina will hold in the near future, is a long-awaited moment. According to economic and business observer Izaac Tony Mattaputy, that's when the Board of Directors will explain how the SOEs can rise from difficult situations and uncertainties, until they finally achieve the highest profit in history and contribute greatly to the country.

"That's why I don't think it's an interesting big profit discussion. What's interesting and eagerly awaited is how Pertamina achieves all of that. Rise in the midst of difficult and uncertain conditions. The Board of Directors must explain this to the GMS. Including, how in the end they have contributed very greatly to the country," Izaac told the media today, Sunday, June 4.

According to Izaac, throughout 2022, although the economy is starting to recover, it is still shrouded in uncertainty. Among other things, related to geopolitical conditions due to the Russo-Ukrainian war and soaring world oil prices. Thus, he added, the factors driving SOEs can overcome difficult situations that must be explained until they can finally achieve very positive performance.

Among the various factors, Izaac did not deny that Pertamina's digitization had a very significant effect. Through digitization, Pertamina can increase efficiency in various business lines.

"That's right, this is one of the keys. With digitalization, quality is getting more controlled, distribution is controlled. Those with poor quality and ineffectiveness will also be monitored so that they can be disposed of immediately. Thus, efficiency is increasing and controlling the company's profits," explained Izaac.

But that's not all. Several other factors may also affect Pertamina's performance.

"Including the possibility of regulatory changes with partners abroad, it also affects income in every transaction," he said.

Pertamina's performance was very positive throughout 2022. Supported by increasing efficiency, the state-owned energy company achieved a jumbo profit of IDR 56 trillion, which is the largest in history. Thanks to this encouraging performance, in addition to contributing significantly in the form of dividends to the state, Pertamina also paid a tax of IDR 219.06 trillion, an increase of 88 percent compared to the previous year.

"Apresiasi memang harus diberikan kepada Pak Menteri Erick Thohir dan juga Pertamina. Karena semakin besar keuntungan, semakin besar juga kontribusi kepada negara," tutup Izaac.
