Minister Of PUPR: Rehabilitation Of Tanjungpinang New Market To Encourage MSMEs

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the rehabilitation or improvement of Pasar Baru, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (Kepri), with a contract value of IDR 76.4 billion was intended to ensure the distribution of basic commodities and help drive the real sector or MSMEs.

"It is hoped that quality market infrastructure can be directly felt, especially ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to move the real sector or MSMEs that are evenly distributed to remote villages," said Minister Basuki as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 1.

Basuki said that the development or rehabilitation of the market was carried out by increasing the market function as a means of people's trade, so that it became a safe, comfortable, clean, organized, and more aesthetic or not slum building.

According to data from the Ministry of PUPR, the construction of the Tanjungpinang City New Market is carried out by the Riau Islands Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR through APBN funding. The scope of work includes the thorough construction of market main buildings in Blocks A, B, C, and D as well as supporting facilities.

Head of the Riau Islands BPPW Fasri Bachmid said the construction of Pasar Baru will start from November 2022 to December 2023. The construction will be carried out by PT Tiara Multi Teknik-PT Indopenta Bumi Permai, KSO with a contract value of IDR 76.4 billion.

"Currently, the construction progress is 35 percent. With this rehabilitation, it is hoped that it can increase the capacity of kiosks from 263 units to 308 units according to the proposal that can accommodate 845 traders who sell vegetables, fresh fish, basic necessities, fruits and clothing," said Fasri.

The development of healthy and hygienic people's market facilities, he continued, will increase the means of trading goods and services in meeting daily needs, so as to support economic growth, especially Tanjungpinang City.

The rehabilitation process of Pasar Baru cannot be separated from the role of the Tanjungpinang City Government which is enthusiastic both in the process of land acquisition until the time of relocation of traders in the temporary market.

One of the shop owners in the market, Dwi admitted that he had long hoped that the market rehabilitation would begin soon.

"I appreciate the government for building this. Because if this market is good, there will be more visitors and it will affect our shop as well," he said.
