Schools In Sentani Papua Give Additional Lessons For Processing Food To Become Papeda To Sago Plates
JAYAPURA - Students at the Papuan traditional school, Hobong Village, Jayapura Regency, receive additional learning materials that are not the same as schools in other areas. They are given general knowledge about managing local food.
"Local food in the Sentani area consists of sago basic materials such as papeda, sago caterpillars, sagobakar and sago mushrooms," said Papuan traditional school principal Orgenes Monim in Sentani, Jaypura, Papua, Monday, May 29, confiscated by Antara.
According to Orgenes, local food consumption has good benefits for body health because it can be fresher without having to go through a preservation process so that the nutrition is better maintained.
"We educate students at traditional schools to process local food from sago as local wisdom of Sentani culture from the ancestors," he said.

He explained that in ancient times, they consumed sago as staple food and were interspersed with tubers.
"Now we can make other creations from sago to fun, ice cream and so on but still retain our local ingredients, namely sago," he said again.
He added that the times of progress cannot be denied that local foods can also be shifted as staple foods.
"For this reason, as a form of preserving our local food, Papuan traditional schools are trying so that learning materials about local food must be controlled by students," he said.
