Many Rat Paths, West Kalimantan Region Called Vulnerable To Trafficking In Persons

West Kalimantan Governor Sutarmidji said West Kalimantan has access in and out of people's rat lanes to neighboring countries that are prone to trafficking in people and make West Kalimantan Province one of the provinces that the central government pays attention to.

"The province of West Kalimantan is one area with very high human mobility. However, there are still many Indonesian Migrant Workers who do not use official (non-procedural) channels until they end up experiencing exploitation in the destination country," Sutarmidji said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 26.

According to him, it is not good for coordination between Ministries/agencies (K/L), invalid data, and imposing sanctions that are not firm, are some obstacles in dealing with human trafficking.

"There are so many modes or cases in trafficking in people, such as contract marriages, child prostitution to the lack of PMI skills. Regarding TIP, whatever the mode is, it must be illegal in various aspects. Most of what happens is child prostitution, this is because our weaknesses are under sanctions," he said.

He assessed that taking decisive criminal action is a way to eradicate TIP in Indonesia.

In the same place, the Commissioner for Education and Counseling of Komnas HAM RI who is also the Head of the TIP Team, Putu Elvina, said that the number of TIP cases online is increasingly spreading, even the number of victims is quite large.

"We have received many complaints using online mode or scamming targeting minors. I think it is possible that the TIP Task Force in the province will not run effectively," said Elvina.

Regarding the Job Training Center, he will try so that PMI can get qualified skills or abilities, so as not to become a victim of slavery in other countries.

"This means that we can provide a professional and certified workforce for neighboring countries. I think this is an opportunity for us to revive BLK with easy conditions and access," he said.
