2022 Emissions Rupiah Wins International Award

JAKARTA Bank Indonesia informs that the rupiah money for the 2022 emission year (TE) consisting of seven denominations, namely Rp. 100,000, Rp. 50,000, Rp. 20,000, Rp. 5,000, Rp. 2,000, and Rp. 1,000 has been named by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) as the best new banknote series at the 17th Currency Award in 2023 in Mexico.

Head of the BI Communications Department Erwin Haryono said earlier that the rupiah currency was side by side with four other finalists, namely the Costa Rica Central Bank, the Mexican Central Bank, the Philippine Central Bank, and the Bahamas Central Bank.

According to Erwin, the winning assessment element is determined through a criterion that includes innovation and uniqueness of security features, integration of historical elements with local content related to the issuer country, effectiveness of the integration of security features, and aesthetics of the appearance and design of paper money.

"The achievement at the highest position of the 2022 TE rupiah currency in the world-level award is a form of international affirmation," he said, quoted Friday, May 19.

Erwin explained that this success was a continuation of the previous achievements achieved by the 75th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in the Rp75,000 denomination as a finalist at the Best Commemorative at the 2022 Currency Award.

"IACA Currency Awards are awards given to achievements in the development and innovation in the cash payment sector which will be attended by 29 countries in 2023," he said.

Erwin added that the peak of this award was packaged at a conference held in the City of Mexico. The IACA award began in 2007 to promote and recognize the quality of banknotes and coins, processes, management, distribution and activities related to cash.

Meanwhile, the IACA domiciled in Texas, USA, founded in 2004, is an independent non-profit organization that encourages the quality of cash cycles, serves as a forum for consultation and collaboration for cash payment system actors whose members consist of the central bank, money issuer authorities, as well as industries such as money printing companies, suppliers of money printing materials.

"The innovation and strengthening of the rupiah currency makes rupiah money more easily recognized, difficult to falsify, and has a longer circulation period so that rupiah currency is more qualified and trusted and becomes pride as a legal tender and a symbol of the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," he concluded.
