Samsung Joins The Generative AI Race, Competing Strictly With ChatGPT
JAKARTA - Samsung joins the generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) race by developing a platform just like ChatGPT.
In collaboration with Naver Corp, Samsung's generative AI is not a public consumption such as ChatGPT, but specifically made for its employees or corporate users.
Naver Corp is the top search engine in South Korea. With this partnership, they will receive data related to semiconductors from Samsung to create a generating AI, which will then be further improved by the tech giant.
According to sources with information, the generative AI tool will be revealed by both of them towards the end of this year or to be precise in October 2023.
Later, the generative AI tool that has not been disclosed will be available first in Korean.
Of course, it will be tested on Samsung's Device Solutions (DS) division, which includes its semiconductor business. Then, the company plans to expand its AI tools to other business divisions.
Claimed to include the Device eXperience (DX) division, which oversees the company's smartphone business and home appliances, as quoted by the Korean Economic Daily, Tuesday, May 16.

Furthermore, as the generative AI will not leave Samsung's servers and will be exclusive to its employees, it may be designed to help the company better than ChatGPT can do. And of course, without worrying, the semiconductor-related source code leaks into the public cloud space.
Seeing Samsung's move, this indicates that companies are reluctant to use AI equipment like ChatGPT again.
The reason is recently that information related to sensitive semiconductors for companies was leaked through the chatbot made by OpenAI when several employees tried to use the tool to facilitate their work.
However, without realizing it, the information and code blocks they share with the AI generative will be part of the ChatGPT and are stored on remote servers beyond Samsung's grasp. Since then, Samsung has banned the use of ChatGPT in the company environment.
