JAKARTA - Teuku Adifitrian, better known as Tompi, is one of the artists who often voice his opinion on various political conditions in the country.
The Acehnese singer stated that he was interested in entering practical politics, but this will not happen in the near future.
Tompi admitted that he was offered several political parties to join, and he was even asked to run in the legislative elections in 2024.
"There are several parties that approach me, frankly. So, there are several parties that are close, asking me to enter," said Tompi in Thamrin, Central Jakarta on Friday, May 12.
As for his reluctance not to rush into practical politics because he feels he is not ready in the ways commonly used in Indonesia, where someone has to spend money on campaigns.
"But, my question at that time was only one, 'Okay, if I go forward, who will pay for the campaign?', (the party said), 'Oh, from my own money, Mas Tompi'. If that's the case, I'll back down'," said Tompi.

"Because the cost of the campaign will definitely not be cheap and I said, 'If I have to stop working as a doctor, I will enter politics, then spend a lot of money, surely I will think about how to return the money I have spent'. That's very humane," he continued.
Without trying to generalize, the singer of the song Menghujam Badminton also hopes that politicians will not do what he suspects.
"So, for the human beings there who have entered politics, I have a good message, for those who have entered there, keep their intentions pure," said Tompi.
"If I can't afford it. So, it's better not, I'll definitely help later, that's why I'm not going forward," he concluded.
