BRI Records Increasing Use Of QRIS During Eid Holidays Soaring 1,000 Percent

JAKARTA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk recorded that the use of BRI QRIS increased by 1,000 percent compared to the same period last year during the Eid holiday period 2023.

BRI Network and Service Director Andrijanto said this shows that the use of QRIS is increasingly in demand by the public because it is easier and faster.

"The main support for this increase comes from merchant transactions," Andrijanto explained to the media, Tuesday, May 9.

Not only in terms of comfort and convenience, Andrijanto added, BRI also guarantees security for customers during transactions.

BRI has verified data according to the SOP, including requiring merchants to attach ID cards that are directly validated to the Dukcapil portal.

Furthermore, a cooperation agreement must be signed by the merchant owner.

"This is to prevent the presentation of false financial reports intentionally or the QRIS fraud," added Andrijanto.

In the process, he said, BRI marketing always conducts on-the-spots to merchants to see firsthand the merchant's business location so as to ensure suitability and business profile.

Furthermore, in terms of inputting the name of the merchant, strict verification is always carried out where business names are adjusted to business or clue signatures such as addresses and street names.

This is to avoid the abuse of QRIS by merchants.

Security guarantees can also be obtained by merchants, including in preventing fraud modes in the form of fake receipts from buyers.

The receipt states the names of merchants, types of goods, and the number of transactions that have been estimated at the beginning to then be shown to the seller after making transactions with payments using a QRIS barcode scan.

So that the seller has provided the goods/services but does not accept the payment to his account.

For this type of fraud, Andrijanto asked the merchants to submit goods/services if there was an entry notification, either from EDC machines, SMS notifications or via BRImo notifications.

BRI QRIS merchants can also download the BRI Merchant application on the PlayStore so that later they can see the success or failure of the transactions made.

From the buyer's side, if payment using the QRIS method through the BRI mobile banking application, namely BRImo, the full name of the QRIS merchant will be displayed so that customers can more easily ensure their suitability.

Finally, Andrijanto hopes that all merchants will check the condition of their respective QRIS stickers.

"Be careful in transacting QRIS, it must be done by all parties involved, both from the side of the QRIS merchant, the buyer, from the side of the PJP Acquirer and the issuer so that transactions will run safely and smoothly. For all BRI merchants, especially mosque merchants, foundations, or other non-profit institutions, in order to regularly check the condition of the QRIS sticker to ensure its authenticity, in good condition, does not fade, is not subject to other stickers, or other indications of manipulation," he concluded.
