JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information in response to the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI)'s request to block online games containing elements of violence and sexuality for children.

According to Kominfo Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, as well as by watching movies, games also have age ratings, which should be played according to the age provisions of the game.

"Look, we have made regulations for all online games to make ratings. It's like you watch movies if there is violence, including games, we also give ratings, including all ages, which are teenagers, which ones are adults, etc.," Budi told the media on Tuesday, April 16 at the Kominfo Office, Jakarta.

Budi also asked the public or game publisher as well as the community to participate in ensuring the age of the player with the online game. So, no children play games that are not age-appropriate.

"It doesn't mean that the online game is prohibited, but the game publisher must provide ratings. It tells us that this is for adults. Yes, not (takedown), we also ask all people to pay attention to this online game," he added.

"Just like I said earlier, can we prohibit the film because there is a scene of violence? After all, he's still declared from the beginning, this is a film 17 years and over," he said.

Previously, on Monday, April 8, KPAI asked the Ministry of Communication and Information to act decisively against the circulation of online games because they had a bad impact on children.

"The government should, in this case Kominfo, act immediately, issue regulations to limit children from using online games, especially online games that contain violence and sexuality," KPAI member Kawiyan told ANTARA.
