JAKARTA Meta, Facebook's parent company cs owned by Mark Zuckerberg has come under pressure from the US government. Recently, the US House of Representatives' Financial Committee urged Mark Zuckerberg to leak Meta plans regarding crypto and blockchain projects.

The reason is that the US House of Representatives' Finance Committee has sniffed out five proposals for the Meta trademark regarding cryptocurrencies and blockchain submitted by the company to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

In a letter written on January 22, Member of the Committee Rep. Maxine Waters expressed concern to Mark Zuckerberg and COO Javier Olivan. Waters expressed concern over the status of Meta registration.

"With the initial filing on March 18, 2022, the submission of the Meta app as of January 22 appears to reflect the company's continuous intention to expand its involvement in the digital asset ecosystem," said Maxine Waters.

Meta, known as the parent of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, had a digital asset project called Diem. The stablecoin Diem (formerly Libra) project was closed in 2019 due to pressure from US reulators. Despite past problems, Meta seems still curious about crypto and blockchain projects.

Meta currently has five trademark registrations that include various blockchain-related services and cryptocurrencies, including digital asset trading, exchange, payments, and digital wallets, as well as related hardware and software infrastructure.

Based on the letter, Meta has received an Approval Notification (NOAs) for its registration, signaling compliance with registration requirements. Meta now has a six-month deadline to respond to a notification letter by confirming its intention to use a trademark.

The letter also highlighted the response schedule, with NOA first published on August 15, 2023, giving Meta until February 15 to give its response. Most recently published on January 16, extending the deadline until July 16.

Launching Bitcoin.com News, in his letter, Waters searched Zuckerberg by asking "Does Meta intend to pursue projects related to web3, digital assets, or digital wallets? Does Meta plan to launch a payment platform that supports cryptocurrencies? How does Meta technology support the creation, mining, storage, transmission, or completion of cryptocurrencies on its related platforms, including the Metaverse?"

When Meta Platforms Inc. got a sharp spotlight from the US government. The technology and crypto industry is looking forward to Meta's response regarding a number of its proposals on crypto and blockchain.
