Handling More Than 800 Content, Minister Of Communication And Information Moves Quickly To Fight Online Gambling

JAKARTA - The latest data from the Directorate General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology states that Kominfo has handled 805,923 online gambling content throughout 17 July - 30 December 2023.

As for the details of the number of online gambling content that was blocked in the period 17 to 31 July 2023 as much as 30,013 content, in August 2023 there were 55,846 content, and in September 2023 96,371 content.

Furthermore, data from the Directorate General. The Aptika also revealed that, in October 2023, Kominfo's highest achievement in handling online gambling content was 293,665 content.

Furthermore, the content of online gambling that was blocked in the November period was 160,503 content, and the December period was 168,895 content.

"Kominfo collaborates with various stakeholders in eradicating online gambling. We are working with OJK, telecommunications and internet service providers and digital platforms," said Budi.

Based on the platform, Kominfo has succeeded in breaking access to online gambling content that appears in the form of sites, IPs, applications, and file sharing.

The details are, 596,348 site content and IP, 173,134 on the Meta platform, 29,257 via the file sharing platform account, 5,993 on the Google and Youtube platforms, 367 on the X platform, 170 on the Telegram platform, 15 on the TikTok platform, 8 App Store platforms, and 1 Snack Video platform.

Not only online gambling content, the Minister of Communication and Information stated that it has succeeded in blocking more than 5,000 bank accounts and e-wallet accounts which are indicated to be used for online gambling activities.

To the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Minister of Communication and Information asked to block accounts related to online gambling. As for internet service providers (ISP) and cellular operators, Budi asked to increase efforts to eradicate online gambling by ensuring the accuracy of system synchronization in website databases containing gambling content.

In fact, Minister Budi Arie also gave a strong warning to Meta in taking down or dealing with online gambling content that is still popping up on the platform.
