JAKARTA - Soon iOS 16 will arrive at Apple's biggest annual event, WWDC 2022. Of course, it will bring a number of features to the iPhone, including an always-on display feature, and includes wallpapers with widget-like capabilities.

It was first reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his Power On article that was informed by a trusted Apple source, saying that the always-on screen mode is an exclusive feature for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

"I was told that iOS 16 builds on future support for the always-on lock screen, something Apple originally planned for the iPhone 13 last year," said Gurman.

"This will allow the iPhone to significantly lower the frame rate on the lock screen and quickly display viewable information, similar to the newer Apple Watch."

Apple did include a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) display panel in its iPhone 13 Pro lineup, a technology that could potentially offer an always-on display.

However, as reported by Apple Insider, Monday, May 30, the included ProMotion support only reaches 120Hz but varies between 10Hz and 120Hz, in contrast to the Apple Watch which can update the refresh rate once every minute.

Additionally, iOS 16 is also expected to include updated default apps, as well as new ways to interact, but retain the same aesthetic as iOS 15.

According to Gurman, this could include updates to the iPad's multitasking notifications, and updates to the Messages and Health apps. In Messages, it can get functions like a social network, with major changes around audio messages.

The always-on display feature would also be a nice addition to the iPhone 14 Pro line, after the redesign is expected to come with a punch hole plus a new pill cutout to replace the notch.

Along with the always-on display feature, the rumored iPhone 14 Pro will also have an A16 Bionic chip and a 48-megapixel rear camera. Both iOS 16 and the latest iPhone are claimed to be launching at WWDC 2022 on June 6.
