JAKARTA - PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), as the brand holder agency (APM) for the Chery brand in Indonesia officially announced that it will start local production of Omoda 5 EV under the name Omode E5 in Indonesia.
Completely knocked down (CKD) production of the SUV took place at a facility owned by Chery in Pondok Ungu, West Java. Thus, for the first time this model will be assembled at a factory in Southeast Asia.
Chen Chunqing, as President of PT CSI, stated that the local start of the production of Omoda E5 is a tangible manifestation of this automotive manufacturer from China supporting the transition of conventional vehicles to environmentally friendly mobility.
"We believe that electric cars are the future of transportation, and we are committed to being part of a solution to reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia," Chen Chunqing said in a statement received by VOI, Sunday, December 3.
This news was also welcomed by the Indonesian government. With the production of this electric car in Indonesia, it is hoped that the development of the Indonesian automotive industry will take place quickly towards electrification and an environmentally friendly ecosystem.
"With Chery's strong experience in vehicle production and exports, we also hope that Chery will make Indonesia a production and export base for electric cars," explained Airlangga Hartarto, as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
