Ahead Of PSG Vs Sociedad, Luis Enrique Did Not Explain The Condition Of Mbappe's Injury

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique declined to explain Kylian Mbappe's latest condition, who suffered an ankle injury ahead of the match between the French capital team and Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 at the Parc des Princes on Thursday morning.

Enrique, who rested Mbappe as PSG won 3-1 over Lille in the French League on Sunday (11/2), did not explain whether the winger was ready to field for tomorrow, but hoped the knee injury suffered by the French national team player would not be too severe.

"When a team has Kylian Mbappe's caliber player, the more he plays, the better for the team," Luis Enrique said at a press conference as quoted by Antara from AFP, Wednesday.

"He could have played four days ago, but it's not worth the risk," said the former coach of the Spanish and Barcelona national teams.

Mbappe became the focus of PSG's front line to qualify for the last 16 after being eliminated from the round in the last three seasons of the Champions League. Throughout the season, Mbappe has scored 30 goals for the club.

"I'm sure Mbappe will have a great match," said Spanish PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

"He was injured but yesterday he was already training and today he is in good shape to play," Ruiz said.

Real Sociedad are eyeing the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 1983 after finishing as Group D winners, ahead of last year's finalists Inter Milan.

For this reason, Ruiz warned PSG players not to underestimate Sociedad even though currently Imanol Alguacil's squad is only in seventh position in the La Liga standings.

"I'm quite familiar with Real Sociedad. They are an organized team, they put a lot of pressure and like to control the ball and counter-pressure, and they do it very well," he said.
