Manchester United Consider Bringing David De Gea Back

JAKARTA - Manchester United is reportedly considering bringing back goalkeeper David de Gea, who was released at the end of last season. According to The Sun, United officials plan to offer the 32-year-old a short-term contract so he returns to Old Trafford.

De Gea's contract expired last summer, but until now he has not found a new club. In MU's proposal, the Spanish goalkeeper will be a  backup when their main goalkeeper, Andre Onana, represents Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Andre Onana recently canceled his plans to retire from the Cameroon national team. He even confirmed he would represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, meaning Onana will likely miss Manchester United's eight crucial matches.

This condition makes Manchester United have an urgent need to have a backup option in the goalkeeper position, considering that they only have Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton as senior goalkeepers in their main squad.

David De Gea, who has served for 12 years at Old Trafford before his move at the end of the 2022/2023 season, is a possible candidate to fill this position.

MU is trying to find a quick solution, and one of the ideas that has emerged is to bring back David De Gea, who did not renew his contract last summer.

There is no certainty whether the goalkeeper, who was dumped by MU, will agree to the temporary proposal from his old club.

However, in the farewell message he wrote via the X account (formerly Twitter), this goalkeeper has a very strong emotional bond with MU.

Maybe, his statement that MU doesn't want to leave will come true.
