JAKARTA - Ducati Lenovo racer Francesco Bagnaia revealed that he was able to achieve his personal target of finishing in at least the top five positions in the San Marino MotoGP Sprint race, Italy, Saturday (9/9).

"My goal is the top five and I think this is one of the best results ever because of my situation. I couldn't ask for more," said Bagnaia, quoted by Antara from Ducati Corse's official statement, Sunday.

The racer who is familiarly called Pecco was referring to the condition of his legs which had not yet fully recovered due to the injury he suffered at the Catalunya MotoGP, Spain, some time ago.

He described the Sprint race this time as more challenging than usual because he often felt pain in his legs.

"(GP) It won't be easy because the laps are very long and I'm quite afraid of that. So for sure I will increase (performance/dose) of painkillers, but I don't want to think too much about that," said Pecco.

Meanwhile, Pecco finished P3 and won seven points in the Sprint race just behind Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac) and Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46). Martin came out as the fastest with a time of 19:58:7850, only 1.445 seconds ahead of Bezzecchi.

At the start, Pecco got an excellent start to take second at turn one behind Martin, but he ran wide on lap 2, allowing Bezzecchi to pass him. The Top 3 remained until the checkered flag was raised.

"It was an intense battle, more of a challenge for me -- both from my side and the bike. When competing with Dani (Pedrosa, KTM), I tried to find the energy to brake hard and not give him the chance to get close enough." Pecco said.

"In the first two or three laps, I needed to warm up my legs, I had difficulty leaning the bike on the right, but after a few laps, things got better, and I improved my lap time and speed," he added.
