Next Toyota Fortuner Will Carry Mild-Hybrid System, Launching In 2024

JAKARTA - In order to expand environmentally friendly vehicles, Toyota plans to present Fortuner by carrying millid-hybrid technology after Prado's mid-year launch in Australia.

Reporting from Drive, Monday, November 27, the SUV is said to carry the same powertrain as developed in Hilux, which is claimed to cut fuel usage by about 10 percent.

Which means, this latest Fortuner will use a system known as the 'Toyota Kinetic Assist' in accordance with its trademark proposal.

The formidable SUV will be paired with a 2.8 liter turbo-diesel 4-cylinder engine that joins the 48V battery system and a small electric motor generator that acts in driving vehicle engines.

In addition to increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions, this configuration also improves driving quality and reduces noise and vibration in cars.

Previously, the technology was tested on Toyota Hilux in the middle of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Kenya, with a sticker reading "hybrid" on the side some time ago.

During the rally in Kenya, this pickup runs a round on a barren terrain. Juha Kankkunen, the holder of four WRC world titles, and its co-driver, Jimmi Gathu, became the pilot. Kankkunen revealed that the use of hybrid mid technology improves the performance of this pickup truck compared to the non-hybrid model.

After trials were carried out on a barren terrain in Kenya, the truck proved to be very suitable for conditions on the African continent. The MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology used helps reduce carbon emissions through electric motors.
