Cynthia Erivo And Ariana Grande Appear In Wicked Film Trailer

JAKARTA - The Super Bowl match features a number of movie trailers in the middle of advertisements, one of which comes from Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu. The two main stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, first appeared in the one-minute trailer.

Accompanied by the song Defying Gravity, Cynthia Erivo appeared all green according to her character, Elphaba, while Ariana Grande became Glinda. The two ventured into Oz's world with all the conflicts and met with characters.

"Don't be afraid," said Glinda, played by Grande.

"I'm not afraid. The Wizard should be afraid of me," said Elphaba.

The story is adapted from Gregory Maguire's novel which also inspired the Broadway musical of the same name. Wicked will tell the story of Dorothy's arrival in that world and the story behind the witch Elphaba.

The trailer also features Michelle Yeoh aslum Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Jeff Goldblum as Wizard of Oz.

Chu's film is divided into two parts to adapt the story. Chu explained that because the production was carried out for a year, of course it was difficult to summarize Wicked's story in just one film.

When we tried to cut the character or song, the decision was fatal to the main material that entertained us throughout the year. We decided to give a bigger canvas and not just make one Wicked film but two! " said John M. Chu in 2022.

The first part of the film Wicked will air on November 27, 2024, followed by the second part which will air on November 26, 2025 in theaters.
