JAKARTA - President Director of Garuda Indonesia Irfan Setiaputra ensured that his airline would not increase the ticket price for aircraft ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 2024.

In fact, there has been no increase in tickets since five years ago, precisely since 2019.

The reason, said Irfan, is that the ticket price offered by Garuda Indonesia is also quite high compared to other airlines.

"Our ticket (price) never goes up. Not because we don't want to, but because it's expensive. This has been going up since 2019, the ticket price has never gone up," he said in a media briefing in Jakarta, Monday, April 1.

Even so, he said, the price of plane tickets for the economic class offered by Garuda Indonesia did not exceed the upper limit (TBA) rate regulated by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), always the regulator.

"We are airlines, our airline is limited by regulations from the Ministry of Transportation stating that there is an upper limit," he said.

"Well, the upper limit includes da avtur. So if the avtur goes up, as long as there are no exceptions, it can't go up, the ticket price that your friends buy is the upper limit rate that we determine," he continued.

The Ministry Of Transportation Will Fine Naughty Airlines

Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized that he would impose sanctions on rogue airlines that raise aircraft ticket prices beyond the TBA set by the government.

Budi explained that the sanctions that will be given are in the form of imposing fines on anyone who violates the applicable rules.

"This ticket is indeed a dilemma, but we emphasize that whoever, any operator, if the upper limit is exceeded, we will fine it," he said during a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, January 18.

Currently, said Budi, there are already rules regarding the amount of fines to be imposed.

"The fine is not yet maximized, maybe we will increase the amount of fines applied," he explained.
