Pertamina Prepares Euro 4 And 5 Fuels, Luhut: Reduce Subsidies To IDR 50 Trillion

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said PT Pertamina (Persero) is preparing Euro 5 fuel and the transition to Euro 4 fuel is considered cleaner than the fuel currently used.

Luhut said, based on the results of the study conducted by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, the highest causes of Jakarta air pollution came from the transportation sector. Euro 4 and 5 are considered to have lower sulfur content so that the resulting emissions are cleaner.

"We are thinking now how this fuel ran to Euro 4 and 5. Why? That's the sulfur to be low. That's what Pertamina is working on," said Luhut, quoted from his Instagram page, Thursday, February 22.

Luhut said, with the transition to Euro 4 and 5, Indonesia could save crocodile fuel subsidies of up to IDR 50 trillion.

"In fact, yesterday I got it, and this is being calculated again, yes, it will reduce it to IDR 20-50 trillion from there. The government is trying to see where the equity is," explained Luhut.

With this transition, he hopes to improve Jakarta's deteriorating air quality. Another effort made by the government to reduce air pollution is to fix Steam Power Plants (PLTU) which are considered to be one of the causes that worsen Jakarta's air quality.

"I think it will accelerate water quality in Jakarta, which is better besides, of course, we will also work on PLTU and others. So the problem is very complex," he explained.

Luhut said the government would also increase the number of LRT, increase the number of buses and use of electric-based vehicles, one of which was the electric motorcycle policy. It is known that the government has provided incentives for the purchase of electric motorcycles of Rp. 7 million and Rp. 10 million for conversion motors.

"We are looking for the best format to become PM 2.5, where particles can enter the blood, we will reduce it so that our children and grandchildren and ourselves are saved due to dirty air pollution," concluded Luhut.
