JAKARTA - The government has involved PT Teknology Geophysical Service (TGS) to conduct a survey to look for oil and gas reserves (oil and gas) in West Sulawesi waters.

Head of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) Mohammad Ali Chandra hopes that the results of a survey conducted by PT TGS can find new oil and gas reserves off the coast of West Sulawesi.

"Of course it will have an impact on the economic development of West Sulawesi and this country," said Ali Chandra quoting Antara.

He said the PT TGS Survey Team was involved by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to conduct a general survey of 2D sea seismics off the coast of West Sulawesi, which is planned to start in March to December 2024.

The PT TGS Survey Team met with the ranks of the West Sulawesi Provincial Government on February 6 to coordinate the oil and gas reserve survey plan,

"Coordination must continue, because it is undeniable that in this seismic survey activity there is the potential for intersecting with the community, which will have a direct impact when the activity is carried out," he said.

Meanwhile, PT TGS Hidayallah Public Relations said that the purpose of the seismic general survey was to accelerate the discovery of new oil and gas reserves to increase the attractiveness of upstream oil and gas investors investing in West Sulawesi.

"As is known, seismic surveys, the initial series in oil and gas industry activities will succeed in determining further activities, and the results of this underground mapping could be the beginning of the construction of production oil wells, will advance the economy of West Sulawesi and this nation," he said.

"There will be socialization before the survey is carried out by inviting district governments that will be crossed by survey ships, namely Polman, Majene, Mamuju, Central Mamuju and Pasangkayu Regencies," he said.

He added that the socialization carried out would include people who could potentially be affected by the survey activities.
